How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Small Business

· 5 min read

When someone searches for a barber, salon, café or garage nearby, your Google rating is often the first thing they see. Most happy customers never think to leave a review unless you ask. These steps make asking simple and keep you inside Google's rules.

1. Ask at the right moment

The best time to ask is right after a good experience: when the customer pays, when they pick up the car, or in a message sent the same day. The longer you wait, the less likely they are to follow through.

2. Make it one tap

Every extra step loses people. Send a direct link to your Google review form instead of asking customers to search for your business and find the review button. A link in a text, an email or a wallet message works well.

3. Ask everyone, not only the people you expect to be happy

Google's policies discourage selectively asking only for positive reviews. Ask all customers the same way. If someone is unhappy, you will usually learn about it and can fix the problem.

4. Do not pay for reviews or offer rewards for them

Google's review policies do not allow offering incentives in exchange for reviews. A discount or a stamp in return for a rating can lead to the review being removed. Thank customers instead, and let a good experience do the work.

5. Reply to every review

A short, polite reply shows future customers that you care. Thank people who write positive reviews, and respond to negative ones calmly, with an offer to put things right. Avoid arguing in public.

6. Make it a habit, not a one-time push

A steady flow of recent reviews looks more trustworthy than a burst of reviews on one day. Build the request into your routine, or automate it so it happens after every visit.
