What Is an Apple Wallet or Google Wallet Loyalty Card?

· 4 min read

A wallet loyalty card is a loyalty card that lives in the Apple Wallet or Google Wallet app already on a customer's phone. Customers add it once, and it is there every time they visit.

How it works

The customer scans a QR code at your counter. Their phone offers to add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and a tap saves it. At each visit, your staff scan the card to add a stamp or points, and the customer's card updates.

No app to download

Most people will not install a separate app for every shop they visit. Because the card uses the wallet that is already on the phone, there is nothing to download and no account to remember.

Why businesses like them

  • Customers keep the card where they already keep their payment cards
  • Progress is stored for you, so a new phone does not mean starting over
  • You can send reminders and updates through the card
  • You can see who your regulars are and how often they visit

What to know before you start

Wallet cards work on modern iPhones and Android phones that support Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. A few customers may not have a compatible phone, so decide how you will handle them. You also need to explain clearly what personal information you collect, and a privacy notice should say so.
